About the position

Duties
♦ Inspects and evaluates DND/CF facilities at scheduled intervals or on request in order to maintain an acceptable level of fire and life safety.
♦ Identifies, prepares and forwards fire and life safety violations reports to building custodians.
♦ Recommends corrective actions and ensures follow up procedures.
♦ Prepares and provides public education and training programs on fire prevention and action in the event of fire.
♦ Assists in fire engineering reviews of projects.
♦ Participates in the identification and preservation of potential evidence at the scene of an emergency response.

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Reliability clearance / secret.
- Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest. 
- Mandatory training according to FMD 1004 must be completed within eighteen months following the nomination date.
- Successful completion of the Federal Medical Evaluation.
- Must possess a valid Provincial Driver’s license.
- Provide the provincial driver record’s abstract.
- Be able to obtain and retain a DND 404 operator’s permit for the entire employment period.
- Willing and able to:
• Travel for work and training purposes;
• Work in confined spaces;
• Work at heights.

EDUCATION
- First Aid & CPR: Valid and endorsed certification from a recognized service provider in standard/basic first aid and “Level C” cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or higher.
AND
- Candidates shall meet one or more of the following fire service training prerequisites:
↪ Completed certifications or studies:
• NFPA (note 1) 1031 Fire Inspector 1
OR
• “Attestation d’Études Collégiale (AEC) en Prévention des Incendies » (Qc)
Note 1: NFPA study programs shall be successfully completed at an IFSAC or Pro board accredited entity.

- NFPA 472 – Hazardous Materials Awareness, Operations, and Technician levels

ASSET EXPERIENCES
- Experience conducting fire inspections in a naval yard, identifying hazards, and checking facilities and vessels for compliance with fire‑safety codes.
- Experience conducting fire inspections in an airport, identifying risks, and verifying the compliance of facilities and aircraft operation areas with fire prevention codes.
- Experience in the Respiratory Protection Program administration including Fit tester certification (QLFT/QNFT) and CSA Z94.4 compliance.
