About the position
Duties
The Regional Operations Centres (ROC) are 24/7 multi-functional centres which will provide support to all Canadian Coast Guard programs. The ROC Officers are responsible for the planning, deployment and tracking of all resources (e.g. vessels, aircraft, vehicles, equipment), for senior regional management, and external clients, to facilitate the delivery of Coast Guard, Science, Fisheries Conservation and Protection, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and OGD programs and services. Maintain emergency preparedness, readiness and initial response leadership for the ROC Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
Work environment
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment. We support Canada’s economic growth through the safe and efficient movement of maritime trade. We help to ensure our country’s sovereignty and security through our presence in Canadian waters. The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometers of Canada’s vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, front-line services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Intent of the process
The intent of this selection process is to create a prequalified pool of candidates at the GT-05 level, to staff vacancies in the Regional Operations Centre. Tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, specified period) may vary according to the position being staffed.

Work evenings, weekends and shift work

Operational Requirements

- Occasional travel
- Work overtime, sometimes on short notice
- Work on a variable work schedule to assure a 24/7 service
You need (essential for the job)
Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education
- Secondary school diploma or higher; OR
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the GT classification.

Occupational Certification
- Transport Canada or CCG certificate of competency (Navigation (watchkeeping mate), Engineering (4th class)); OR
- Department of National Defence marine certificate as validated by TC

Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Canadian Coast Guard programs and services
Abilities
- Ability to interpret Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to produce briefings to a wide variety of audiences from reports using presentation programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing

Asset Education
- Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Asset Occupational Certification
- Higher level of certification (above watchkeeping mate ticket or 4th class engineering ticket)
Asset Experience
- Management Experience – including the direct management of personnel, and/or financial management, and/or the management of marine operations.
- Five (5) or more years seagoing experience
- Two (2) or more years shore-based marine industry experience
- Two (2) or more years operations centre experience in the marine industry
