Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
Intent of the process
Anticipatory: This process is intended to fill anticipated vacancy(ies).
This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Cape Breton Field Unit.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance.
Maintenance of a valid class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License, or other provincial equivalency.

Operational Requirements

Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required.
Willingness to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays when required.
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, adverse weather conditions.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience in managing human and financial resources.
Experience in providing leadership, guidance and direction to work crews.
Experience in managing schedules and reviewing work.
Experience in the general repair and maintenance of facilities, structures, grounds, roads and highways, or other assets such as water/sewer infrastructure.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of highway maintenance methods, standards, guidelines and equipment.
Knowledge of snow removal methods, standards, and best practices.
ESSENTIAL ABILITIES:
Ability to plan, organize and implement maintenance programs.
Ability to assess and evaluate work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards
Ability to advise supervisors and employees about safe work practices and safety standards and regulations.
