About the position

Duties
The proposed project aims to investigate tungsten mineralization in the Northern Dancer deposit in Yukon, Canada. The Northern Dancer (formerly known as Logtung) is a tungsten deposit in the Canadian Cordillera with an inferred resource of 242 Mt at 0.10% W0₃ and 0.047% MoS₂. The association of tungsten with molybdenite and the occurrence of significant mineralization as veins within metapelites makes Northern Dancer significantly different from the main tungsten mineralization style in the Cordillera, which consists of skarn deposits with scarce to absent molybdenite.
This study seeks to characterize the alteration footprints developed in metapelites and their relationship to distinct stages of tungsten mineralization, as well as the melts and fluids responsible for tungsten transport and mineralization at Northern Dancer. To achieve these objectives:
(1) alteration haloes of veins belonging to well constrained paragenetic stages will be analyzed using microXRF to evaluate element enrichment and depletion in relationship with specific mineralizing fluids;
(2) the composition of fluid inclusions in different stages of mineralization as well as in scheelite will be determined through Raman spectroscopy and LA-ICPMS; and
(3) the composition of melt and fluid inclusions in unidirectional solidification textures will be investigated through petrography, thermometric experiments and LA-ICPMS.
The project will involve lab work at different labs using archival and newly collected samples, analyzing samples and interpreting the acquired data, and ultimately publishing the results in the relevant peer-reviewed journal articles.
