About the position
DutiesBoth roles are responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of high-quality, applied geoscience projects throughout Nunavut. They use the scientific results from these projects to provide advice on responsible mineral resource exploration and development and land use planning to the Nunavut government and the government of Canada, academia, industry, community representatives, national and international clients and partners and other stakeholders. They prepare and deliver a variety of maps, presentations and reports about geoscience and natural resource potential in Nunavut for government publications, scientific journals, and conferences, and communicate the results of their work to Nunavummiut through community engagement.
Difference in positions:
Stream 1 - The Surficial Geologist position primarily includes field work throughout Nunavut, to better understand its surficial and Quaternary geology.
Stream 2 - The Economic Geologist position helps better understand Nunavut’s metallic and non-metallic mineral endowment and economic mineral potential.

The Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office (CNGO) consists of expertise in geology, GIS and cartography. Intent of the process
Stream 1 - The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate PC-03 Surficial Geologist position in Nunavut.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures and conditions of employment.
Stream 2 (Anticipatory) - The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified PC-03 Economic Geologists to staff future vacancies with various tenures and conditions of employment in Nunavut.

EDUCATION (Stream 1 & 2)
► Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position such as earth sciences or geophysics.

BOTH STREAMS (1 & 2)
EXPERIENCE:
► Experience in planning and implementing geoscience field projects. This may include but is not limited to the organization of field logistics, equipment, obtaining necessary permits, licences, or authorizations.
► Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing geoscience data.
► Experience in producing geological maps using GIS technologies and working with a variety of geoscience data sets.
► Experience in preparation of technical and scientific documents such as maps, reports, presentations, or publications in scientific journals.
STREAM 1 - SURFICIAL GEOLOGIST:
► Experience leading geoscience projects focused on surficial, glacial, or Quaternary geology.
STREAM 2 - ECONOMIC GEOLOGIST:
► Experience in planning and leading local-scale studies of mining camps and economic
mineral potential.
