About the position

Duties
Provides semi-skilled and general maintenance, repair, building, and installation services for the Parks Canada Agency.
Work environment
Riding Mountain National Park is located in Treaty 2 Territory, the Anishinabe homelands, where we work with the Coalition of First Nations with interests in Riding Mountain National Park to foster positive and collaborative relationships. Riding Mountain National Park is located approximately 3.5 hours northwest of Winnipeg. Protecting 3,000 square kilometers of wilderness.
Approximately 350,000 people visit Riding Mountain National Park each year. Our dynamic and diverse staff protect and present the park. We provide visitors with quality and memorable experiences during each season of the year.
Intent of the process
This staffing process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates for this position and similar positions with various tenures and locations, including indeterminate and term opportunities positions on-location in Riding Mountain National Park.

Conditions of employment

• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks
• Possession and maintenance of valid Class 5 Driver's License

Operational Requirements

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekend and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to work overtime on occasion, possibly on short notice
• Willingness and ability to perform physical labour and lift up to 50 lbs
• Willingness to obtain a certificate for work at heights
• Willingness to operate and maintain power and hand tools
• Willingness to complete training provided by Parks Canada
• Willingness to use safe work practices (training and terms of use provided)

EDUCATION
• Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position.

EXPERIENCE
• Experience in coordinating and conducting preventative maintenance measures, semi-skilled repairs, construction and installation for a range of facilities, components and structures
• Experience in planning and managing small to moderate scale projects;
• Experience in the use, operation and maintenance of a range of manual and power tools
and equipment.
• Experience in the use of computers and programs (for example, Email, Word, Excel, etc.)
Applied / assessed at a later date
KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of safe work practices and standards;
• Knowledge of use and selection of tools, materials and equipment for particular operations;
• Knowledge of selecting and applying a range of general and semi-skilled repair and maintenance techniques.
ABILITY:
• Ability to conduct basic installations and construction using semi- skilled and general building and installation methods, techniques, and applications.
• Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.
• Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals and carry out necessary tasks for the maintenance of equipment.
COMPETENCIES

Water/Wastewater Utilities
• Experience in preventative and general maintenance of water/wastewater systems, including treatment, collection and distribution systems.
Plumber
• Experience maintaining and repairing various plumbing and utility services.
Carpenter
• Experience in basic carpentry methods and practices
• Experience in maintenance and repair of historic structures
Electrician
• Experience in electrical tasks associated with maintenance in residential, recreational, commercial and/or industrial buildings.
