About the position
DutiesJoin a small but dedicated Parks Canada team at Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site! As a Visitor Experience Student, you will help provide a memorable experience to visitors seeking to connect with the history of the region.
Duties include:
✔️ Greet and orient visitors, respond to questions and provide information about the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site and Parks Canada
✔️ Collect revenue using a point-of-sale system, interact machine and cash payments
✔️ Assist in organizing and delivering special events and programs on-site to the general public
✔️ Assist visitor experience staff on various projects as required
✔️ Create social media content
✔️ Other duties as required

Nestled beneath the International Bridge in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the Sault Ste. Marie Canal was built to bypass the rapids on the St. Marys River. Opened in 1895, the canal completed an all Canadian waterway featuring the longest lock in the world and the first to operate using electricity.
Known as Baawaating, this region holds profound significance as home and sacred gathering place for Indigenous peoples. The dedicated Visitor Experience team at the Sault Ste. Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to hire student(s) for summer 2026. Student(s) will work between May and the end of August 2026. Work terms may be adjusted (i.e., longer or shorter) depending on both operational needs and student availability.
This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, or linguistic (profiles OR requirements) in the same or other parts of the Northern Ontario Field Unit.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EDUCATION
✔️ Registered as a full time or part-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited academic program or a recent graduate in the last 4 months
✔️ Participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution

EXPERIENCE
✔️ Experience working with the public and/or public speaking
✔️ Experience handling debit, cash and using a Point of Sale (POS) system
