About the position

Duties
As a General Flight Standards Inspector in the Strategy and Emerging Technologies group, you will:
· Contribute to the development and implementation of standards, policies, and procedures related to RPAS, AAM, and other emerging aviation technologies.
· Provide subject matter expertise on flight operations, safety management systems, and regulatory compliance.
· Support the integration of new technologies into the Canadian aviation system through risk-based oversight and policy development.
· Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including industry and international partners, to advance Transport Canada’s strategic objectives.
· Participate in technical committees and working groups related to emerging aviation domains.
Work environment
The Strategy and Emerging Technologies group is a dynamic and innovative team within Transport Canada Civil Aviation. We work at the forefront of aviation advancements, including Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and other emerging technologies. Our team operates in a hybrid work environment, with a blend of in-office and remote work (3 days per week in the office).
Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to staff one (1) position on an indeterminate basis within the Strategy and Emerging Technologies group in the National Capital Region (NCR). A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with varying tenures, language requirements, and/or work locations.

Operational Requirements

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requirement to travel to local, national and international destinations.
Requirement to travel via all modes of transportation to remote and/or isolated locations.
Requirement to work in an aviation environment (i.e. noise, fumes, hazards).
Requirement to work overtime, irregular hours and weekends.

Occupational Certification
Possession of a medically valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License – Aeroplane Category with a valid Group I Instrument Rating AND possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical);
OR
Possession of a medically valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License – Helicopter Category with a valid Group IV Instrument Rating AND possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).
Experience
Experience working in a Safety Management System (SMS) environment or the military equivalent.
Experience working with risk management concepts and principles.
Experience in analyzing complex situations and making recommendations.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge
Knowledge of the Aviation Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Asset Experience
Experience operating transport category aircraft.
Experience using Flight Management Systems.
Experience working with Electronic Flight Instruments Systems.
Experience on advanced technology aircrafts.
Holds an ATPL-H.
Hold or have held a Class 1, or Class 2, or Class 3 Flight Instructor Rating OR an equivalent military instructional qualification.
Experience working in a regulatory transportation environment (experience as a Civil Aviation Safety Inspector, Approved Check Pilot or Pilot Examiner).
