Duties
Delivers and leads/supervises applied science, monitoring and/or active management projects or environmental assessments in support of a resource management program.

Its stunning vistas and rock formations are a testament to our planet’s captivating history. The Forillon Peninsula has been inhabited for thousands of years and Forillon Park bears witness to the lives of the men and women who lived there, including Micmacs, fishermen, cod merchants, whale hunters and lighthouse keepers.

Operational Requirements

⮩ Be willing to wear a Parks Canada uniform and recommended protective equipment.
⮩ Be willing to travel and/or work in various environments and weather conditions as well as isolated localities and to use various methods of transport.
⮩ Be willing to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends, national holidays, and provincial/territorial holidays as required.
⮩ Be willing to take training to obtain certificates to operate various types of land vehicles (all-terrain vehicle, snowmobile) and marine vehicles (motorized and non-motorized watercraft) when required.
⮩ Be willing to serve on different emergency teams (first aid, land or marine search and rescue, fire, environmental emergency).
⮩ Be willing to obtain and maintain a firearms possession and acquisition licence.
⮩ Be willing to obtain and maintain a Class 4A driver’s licence (emergency vehicles).
⮩ Be willing to take remote first aid training.
⮩ Be willing to take the Parks Canada basic long gun course.
⮩ Be willing to take wildlife chemical immobilization training.

🎓EDUCATION:

⮩ Degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental or natural sciences (e.g., biology, ecology, botany).

💼 EXPERIENCE:
────────────
⮩ Significant experience* leading at least two phases of applied science projects in the field (design, preparation/logistics, information synthesis, definition of data collection requirements, data/sample analysis, presentation of results).
⮩ Significant experience* preparing technical/scientific reports, manuscripts, or protocols.
⮩ Experience using various computer programs such as Microsoft Office (including Excel or Access), statistical analysis software, and geographic information systems (GIS).
⮩ Experience using and maintaining different data/sample collection equipment.
*Significant = 6 months or more

⮩ Knowledge of terrestrial/marine environments, vegetation, and wildlife as well as the particular climatic conditions in and around Forillon National Park.
⮩ Knowledge of sampling theories, principles, and methods in environmental and natural sciences.

⮩ Ability to implement the appropriate protocols for collecting data or samples.
⮩ Ability to plan, set priorities, and organize their work and that of the field teams in the short and medium term based on expected results on active management projects and natural resource monitoring projects.
⮩ Ability to monitor spatial and non-spatial data entry, manipulate databases, and perform analyses using a variety of software and applications.
⮩ Ability to prepare and present scientific reports and communicate with a range of audiences using different methods.
⮩ Ability to create a positive and productive work environment.
