About the position

Work environment
A Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.
Intent of the process
This process will be used to staff one indeterminate full-time position in Lac La Biche, AB. A qualified pool of candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance.
NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

Operational Requirements

Willing and able to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material
Willingness and ability to work overtime, if required
Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation (including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft and up to and including remote locations)
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.
Experience in the provision of administrative support services including two of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail
Experience in using computer applications including two of the following: databases, email, spreadsheets, or word processing.

Experience in maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Police Reporting Occurrence System (PROS) or Canadian Police Information (CPIC).
Experience working in a law enforcement and/or legal environment
Training and/or experience in providing financial support services such as the collection and recording of monies received, handling petty cash funds, verifying supplier invoices, preparing invoices
