About the position

Work environment
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment. We support Canada’s economic growth through the safe and efficient movement of maritime trade. We help to ensure our country’s sovereignty and security through our presence in Canadian waters. The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometers of Canada’s vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, front-line services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff one (1) GL-MAN-08 position and one (1) GL-MAN-05 position in Hay River, NT. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis.

Conditions of employment may vary depending on the position to be staffed:
Valid Health Canada Medical;
Valid Provincial Class 5 Driver’s License;
Valid Class 3 driver's license with an airbrake "Z" endorsement (or equivalent);
Climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m;
Travel for extended periods of time to remote sites via trucks, boats and aircraft, snowmobile and ATV;
Work weekends and overtime;
Travel on short notice;
Work at remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extremes of environmental conditions;
Lift heavy loads up to 23 kg’s;
Isolated Post Medical (if applicable);
Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest.

You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Both Streams:
Experience in the use and maintenance of portable and stationary power tools associated with the construction industry;
Experience completing maintenance work and providing assistance to different trades involved in the installation and maintenance of equipment and systems;
Experience using word processing software, example: Microsoft Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
Stream 2 Only:
Experience in the operation of a heavy truck and tractor-trailer;
Experience in the operation of light motorized equipment such as forklifts, utility tractors/excavators, all-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), loaders, snow-removal equipment, overhead cranes and other similar material handling equipment involved in maintenance activities.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Both Streams:
Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment that apply at a work site.
Knowledge of Personal Protective equipment (PPE) used in an *industrial operations environment.
* Industrial operations environment is defined as an operational site where multi-trades are working simultaneously
GL-MAN-08 only:
Knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements respective to the field (such as the Motor Vehicles Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and WHMIS)
Both streams:
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Experience in high pressure washing, sandblasting or specialized painting equipment.
