Duties

Visitor Facilities Attendants provide cleaning and sanitation services in Parks Canada buildings and facilities including campground centers and kiosks, washroom and shower buildings, and at campsites. They will perform minor maintenance tasks, grounds keeping duties such as litter picking and raking. Other tasks include sweeping, mopping, dusting, removing garbage and recycling, hauling firewood and operating small equipment (e.g. leaf blower)

This position requires the incumbent to:
• Conduct repetitive tasks
• Stand, bend, stretch and work from ladders
• Lift supplies, boxes, tools and equipment such as buckets
• Be exposed to noxious odours from cleaning products
• Be exposed to potential minor injury when performing cleaning and maintenance activities (e.g., falls from ladders, irritations from cleaning products, minor cuts and bruises)
• Make moderate physical efforts, including standing for prolonged periods of time

In addition to the above duties, the Visitor Facilities Attendant Supervisor provides supervision to a small team of employees and is responsible for ordering supplies and managing inventory. The incumbent will work in various locations across Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks, including Rogers Pass.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to hire a full-time, permanent Visitor Facilities Attendant Supervisor (GS-BUS-02 B2). This process will also be used to create a list of qualified candidates for the position of Visitor Facilities Attendant (GS-BUS-02), should future vacancies arise.

EDUCATION
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Valid class 5 driver’s licence or provincial equivalent

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in providing cleaning services in a commercial or institutional environment
EX2: Experience in working both independently and within a team
EX3: Experience supervising employees (GSBUS02 B2 only)
EX4: Experience in ordering and managing inventory for cleaning supplies and equipment. (GSBUS02 B2 only)

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Willingness to report to work in Rogers Pass National Historic Site, Glacier National Park, and/or Mount Revelstoke National Park as required
• Willingness to work at various sites (including Rogers Pass) inside buildings and outside in varying weather conditions
• Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and/or prescribed protective equipment
