About the Role:
Parks Canada is seeking a motivated, experienced, and collaborative leader to join the Western Arctic Field Unit management team as Resource Conservation Manager. This exciting and meaningful role is ideal for someone passionate about conservation, Indigenous partnerships, and leadership in Canada’s North.
As Resource Conservation Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of natural and cultural resource conservation programs across four protected areas in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region:
• Ivvavik National Park
• Tuktut Nogait National Park
• Aulavik National Park
• Pingo Canadian Landmark
These areas are cooperatively managed with Inuvialuit partners. Your role will be key in maintaining these relationships and ensuring collaborative, respectful, and effective stewardship of the land.
You will manage a diverse team of approximately 12 staff, including ecologists, resource conservation officers, visitor safety / fire technicians, cultural resource management advisors, and other specialists, with about 6 direct reports. The work involves both office-based leadership and occasional field visits to some of the most spectacular and remote landscapes in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee conservation programs including ecological monitoring, fire management, human-wildlife conflict, species at risk, and cultural resource protection
• Participate in cooperative management with Indigenous partners
• Manage permitting, impact assessment, and environmental research activities
• Lead the visitor safety & wildfire management programs
• Use Parks Canada HR and operational systems for staffing, performance, budgeting, and planning
• Build strong relationships with Indigenous communities, government agencies, stakeholders, and non-government organizations
Ideal Candidate Profile:
We’re looking for someone who brings a mix of leadership, field operations knowledge, and cultural awareness. The ideal candidate will have:
• 2–3 years of experience in a Parks Canada (or similar) management role
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex programs
• Strong understanding of public sector administration processes involving management of people or money.
• Experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities
• A commitment to ecological integrity, cultural heritage, and team development
Why Join Parks Canada in the Western Arctic?
This is more than a job — it’s an opportunity to contribute to meaningful conservation work in collaboration with Indigenous partners, while enjoying the natural beauty and cultural richness of Canada’s North.
Our team values innovation, respect, and cooperation. You’ll be supported as a leader and have a chance to shape programs that protect irreplaceable places and deepen relationships with communities.

This position is based in Inuvik; Canada’s largest community north of the Arctic Circle. A hub for the Western Arctic region, Inuvik offers unrivalled opportunities to experience Canada’s unique northern cultures and some of the world’s greatest natural landscapes. The warmth of the people makes it easy to feel at home in this modern, active town of approximately 3000 people, accessible by both road and jet service. A good work-life balance means time to participate in festivals, sports and clubs, or just explore countless lakes and rivers, boreal forest and tundra, the Beaufort Sea and Richardson Mountains.
