Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill one (1) English Essential HP-03 position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. This process will also be used to fill one (1) upcoming English Essential HP-04 position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Greenwood, Nova Scotia.

A pool of essentially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Department of National Defence.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
-A valid Power Engineer Class 2, or Class 3 Certification
-Must register with the jurisdiction, within the province of work if you do not possess a certification for the jurisdiction

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
-Experience assisting in the operation and maintenance of a Heating Plant*
OR
-Experience operating a Heating Plant*
-Experience applying Provincial and Federal legislation associated with power engineering
-Experience following safety practices relevant to the position
-Experience using basic Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)

*Definition of Heating Plant - Contains high and low pressure boilers, oil and gas burners, pressure vessels, feed water systems, heat exchangers, liquid and gaseous fuel systems, chemical feed systems, compressed air systems, auxiliary equipment and heating systems.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

-A valid Power Engineer Class 2, or Class 3
-Valid provincial or territorial driver's licence
-Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain the Departmental Driver’s Licence, DND 404
-A current and acceptable driver’s abstract
-Must be able and willing to work shift work and overtime
-Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators, protective footwear, etc
-Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, in confined spaces, from ladders and scaffolds, and perform heavy lifting
-Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest
