Step 1: Screening (Review of Applications)
▶ When you apply for this process, an initial screening will be done on education and experience by the answers you provide in your online application. As a result, please ensure you allow yourself a significant amount of time to complete this application.
▶ You must meet the essential education and experience qualifications to move forward to the assessment phase.
Step 2: Assessment
▶ An interview and/or written exam may be administered.
▶ Reference checks may be conducted. The Assessment Committee may contact references other than those provided by the candidates (within the Public Service only) in order to adequately assess the candidates.
▶ Be prepared to provide proof of education credentials. If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. For more information, please click on “Degree Equivalency” in the Education section above.
▶ Be prepared to provide proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
▶ Oversees and coordinates the occupational therapy (OT) services for Veterans.
▶ Reviews the assessments/reports completed by external health professionals; analyzes the detailed information; identifies client needs and adjudicates the requested benefit or service or makes recommendations and provides consultation to internal VAC staff and /or external providers.
▶ Collaborates with field operation staff and interdisciplinary team (IDT) members and provides specialized OT advice on files, initiatives, and day-to-day operations.
▶ Obtains, reviews and analyzes requests for designated departmental health care benefits and services; recommends, or authorizes, their approval or decline.
▶ Educates and trains external providers and VAC staff, and identifies any gaps in services to optimize delivery of benefits and services to Veterans and their families.
▶ Participates in National/Regional working groups and committees.
▶ Performs or participates in ad hoc comprehensive OT assessments for complex issues.

AQ3: Clinical experience* working with adults with mental health conditions.
AQ4: Clinical experience* working with adults with chronic pain problems.
AQ5: Clinical experience* using a trauma informed or an anti-oppressive approach.
AQ6: Clinical experience* providing assessments and recommendations for home adaptations and adaptive medical equipment to clients.
*Clinical experience is defined as the depth and breadth normally associated with approximately 1.5 years of experience.
