Duties

The Driver, Handling and Delivery is responsible for: providing efficient transportation services to employees of the Parliamentary Protective Service and other identified authorized users. The incumbent is responsible to drive small, medium and large transportation vehicles, operational vehicles as well as the utilization of specialized tools and equipment to provide delivery and handling services of, fleet vehicles, goods between locations on the Hill, throughout the National Capital Region (NCR) and outside the NCR.

Work environment

The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is a separate and distinct organization not subject to the Public Service Employment Act. It has its own classification, compensation system, and staffing regime. Persons appointed to PPS continue to be part of the federal government and will receive the public service pension plan and public service insurance benefits plan.

Intent of the process

The purpose of this recruitment and selection process is to establish a pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates. We currently have two (2) temporary positions (3 months) to fill with the possibility of extension. This pool will also be used to staff future permanent positions.

EDUCATION:

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES:

EX1 - Recent* and significant** experience in driving vehicles that requires a class G (Ontario) or 5 (Quebec) driver’s license.

EX2 - Significant* experience in material handling and delivery (such as: furniture assembly, transporting boxes and equipment).

EX3 - Recent* and significant** experience operating various softwares, including Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook.

DEFINITIONS:
*Recent means within the last five (5) years.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are acquired on a full-time basis over a one (1) year period.

Valid driver's license Ontario F or Quebec 4B.

Experience working in a law enforcement environment.

Experience in vehicle maintenance.

Conditions of employment

You must be eligible to obtain both a Site Access Clearance and an Enhanced Reliability Status clearance . The process involves a background investigation that includes:
• a loyalty assessment;
• law enforcement verifications;
• credit and financial verifications;
• a security interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), previous employment, online activities, financial situation, alcohol and/or drug use;
• personal references as well as previous employers will also be contacted as part of the security screening process.
