Duties

This process will be used to fill various Clerk positions for temporary (casual) roles for the duration of the electoral campaign (approximately 3 to 6 weeks).
Below is a brief description of the main duties:
• Receive and process incoming mail. Recognize the various envelopes and forms received and handle them as per the procedures in place.
• Receive and hand-off Poll Bags and organize the Count Room.
• Work with various small equipment, such as scanners, envelope openers, scales, date stamping equipment and electric envelope counters.

UNIQUE WORK LOCATION
The warehouse at 440 Coventry Road in Ottawa is the workplace of our Alternative Voting Methods team. It also houses the Distribution Centre. There are many benefits to this location as well, such as free parking, easy access to public transit and reserved bike space. Plus, the St. Laurent Shopping Centre is just next door.

Intent of the process

This intention of the process is to staff temporary (CASUAL) unilingual positions for the duration of the electoral campaign (approximately 3 to 6 weeks).

EDUCATION
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Experience working in roles involving detailed and repetitive clerical *tasks.

*Tasks could include, sorting and scanning mail or packages, labelling, stocking shelves, checking inventory, packaging.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
Experience working in a fast paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities.
Basic experience operating machines, such as counting machine, OPEX Mail Matrix, envelop opener, barcode printer, scanner.
Experience working for an electoral management body at the federal, provincial, territorial, or municipal level.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Consent to observe strict political impartiality and neutrality for the duration of employment.
Willingness and available to work overtime on as when required, often and on short notice.
Willingness and available to work full time, onsite and in person 5 days a week for the duration of the election period.
Willingness and available to work on variable/flexible shift work schedules, as and when required.

Candidate will be required to work 5 days a week, full-time in person and onsite at 440 Coventry Road in Ottawa, Ontario.
