Some of the duties of the Project Technologist include:
• Planning and undertaking condition assessment inspections of harbour infrastructures.
• Producing tender-ready sketches and specifications for non-complex projects, in consultation with a senior project engineer or senior project technologist.
• Providing project management services to support the delivery of Small Craft Harbours projects including monitoring and reporting on progress of own projects.
• Making sketches by hand and taking measurements of harbour infrastructure, in the field, in order to support the preparation of as-found condition drawings for options, analysis and design.
• Providing technical input for program planning, project planning and long-range capital planning.
Small Craft Harbours (SCH) is a nationwide program of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, which operates and maintains a network of harbours in support of the needs of the commercial fishing industry. The mandate of SCH is to keep the harbours that are critical to the fishing industry open and in good repair. The program is delivered in cooperation with Harbour Authorities (local not-for-profit organizations) who manage the harbours.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is following the direction from the Office of the Chief Human Resource Officer on the introduction of a common hybrid work model across the federal public service. This common hybrid model consists of work on site at least 2-3 days each week, or 40-60% of the regular schedule. EDUCATION
• Successful completion of a two-year post-secondary program in construction management, civil engineering, survey, architectural technology or related building technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, recognized technical institute or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE
• Recent* and significant** experience in managing the scope, schedule and budget during implementation of construction, maintenance or repairs of infrastructure.
• Experience providing engineering, technical and project support for infrastructure construction, maintenance or repair.
• Experience preparing proposals, work plans, financial reports, cost estimates and project progress reports
• Experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Recent* and significant** are defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally associated with the performance of duties for a period of approximately three (3) years within the last eight (8) years.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• Certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist in Canada
• Experience working with or for Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Small Craft Harbours.
• Experience using technical drawing software (e.g. AUTOCAD) to produce designs and drawings.
• Experience applying health and safety principles, codes and regulations in project delivery.
• Experience managing marine projects.
