We are looking for a highly motivated M.Sc. student to study the potential impacts of the pipeline leakage of selected biofuels (such as renewable diesel among others) on groundwater quality. The goal of the work will be to better understand how the physical and chemical properties of these fuels impact their fate, behaviour, degradation and remediation in a groundwater setting.
• Review previous research into biofuels and potential impacts on groundwater.
• Develop experimental plan to study either potential impacts of renewable diesel.
• Identify analytes of interests for fuel of interests based on preliminary lab studies and literature. Use existing or new methods to measure concentrations of analytes of interest.
• Conduct laboratory experiments to simulate spill of fuel identified.
• Conduct analysis of spill experiments to understand processes impacting fate, behaviour of biofuel in simulated a groundwater aquifer.
