Duties

• Assesses, monitors and reports on regional/national policy centre programs/policies/ initiatives/activities, legislation and regulatory compliance, as well as recommends corrective action in accordance with environmental requirements.

• Provides advice and guidance on regional/national program-related issues, trends and directions to internal clients and other stakeholders to facilitate understanding and cooperation; and promotes program strategies and service delivery with internal clients in consultation with Regional Environmental Specialists or National Policy Centre Environmental Specialists.

Work environment

In support of RCMP Operations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, including Depot (the national cadet training facility), the RCMP’s Corporate Management Branch (CMB) is accountable for the corporate functions of: Procurement and Contracting, Materiel Management, Real Property, Fleet Management, Finance, Business Systems, and Organizational Business Integration. To successfully perform these functions, CMB employees are required to actively engage with a diverse range of external and internal clients to understand and be responsive to their needs and take ownership of their roles and responsibilities. The work environment is demanding, often changing and unpredictable, therefore, CMB employees are required to be professional, flexible, innovative, progressive and positive agents of change in order to achieve superior RCMP results and value for Canadians.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position1.

Degree equivalency

EX1 - Significant* and recent** experience in the interpretation and application of environmental laws, regulations, policies, standards, codes or best management practices
EX2 - Significant* and recent** experience in collection, research or analyzing data.
EX3 - Significant* and recent** experience in conducting and coordinating environmental reporting.
EX4 - Significant* and recent** experience providing advice to support environmental decision-making.
EX5 - Significant* and recent** experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Environment Health
• Environmental Compliance
• Contaminated Sites & Environmental Emergencies
• Environmental Assessment

*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a two (2) year period.
** Recent is defined as being acquired within the last five (5) years.

Conditions of employment

C1 - Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
C2 - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status Security clearance. Those selected must meet and maintain the above condition of employment throughout their employment.
