To be considered for the Program, a candidateβs application should include the following: a cover letter, resume, undergraduate transcript, latest Law School transcript and name, title, phone number and email address of three (3) references we can contact.
Please indicate on the list of names where you worked with the reference and in what capacity (for example, supervisor, professor, or stakeholder).
For References to make a meaningful contribution, they should have had an adequate opportunity to observe the applicant so that they are able to provide constructive comments regarding the consistency and quality of the applicant's behaviour.
The detailed cover letter provides an opportunity for the candidate to describe how they meet the skills and attributes identified as well as explain why they want to work in the public sector and particularly at the Department of Justice.
The intent of the process is to establish a pool of candidates at the LP-00 (Articling Student) group and level.
Candidates who qualify and are selected for admittance into the Program will be appointed to a determinate (term) appointment at the LP-00 group and level.
Candidates who successfully complete the Program will be placed in the departmental National Inventory from which a determinate (term) or indeterminate (permanent) appointment can be made.
Appointments resulting from this process will be made under the Justice Canada LP-01 Training and Development Program. This program provides for the progression of participants from LP-00 (articling student) to LP-02 (counsel) over approximately 5 years. As such, it is expected that an initial appointment to this program would ultimately result in an indeterminate non-advertised LP-02 appointment (subject to meeting all program requirements).
