The Parliamentary Protective Service is seeking dynamic people to join our operations and become an integral part of safeguarding the Parliament of Canada. Our Protection Officers are armed personnel responsible for ensuring Parliament is safe and accessible so parliamentarians can carry out their legislative duties in a safe and secure environment. Our Protection Officers work on a rotational basis, including evenings, weekends, and night shifts, 365 days a year. You will receive continuous training and various employment opportunities allowing you to expand your career and support a variety of units within the Service, from planning and event management, training, intelligence and to exterior operations.

ASSESSMENT STEPS:

2. The screening questionnaire should take approximately 45 minutes to complete. For the competency-based questions, You MUST provide work related examples based on your current work or on a recent work. You MUST also provide the name and email of a current or recent supervisor or manager who can validate each example you provided. To answer the pre-screening questions, you can use the STAR method. The STAR method is a structured manner of responding to a behavioral-based interview question by discussing the specific situation, task, action taken, and result of the situation you are describing.

3 - If you are screened in and selected, you will be invited to the following assessment steps:

- References Check
- PARE test
- Psychological Assessment
- Medical Assessment
- Security Accreditation Process

4 - TRAINING: If you are found successful in all of the above noted assessment steps, you will be eligible for the Recruit Program which is anticipated to start in September 2024.

Intent of the process

The purpose of this recruitment process is to establish a pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates to staff positions on a temporary or indeterminate basis within the Service.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION:

A high school diploma or an acceptable combination of experience, training and education

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES:

Significant** experience demonstrating thinking skills in a work environment.

Significant** experience working as a team.

Significant** experience providing client service in a work environment.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the use of firearm.

Experience in a security and/or law enforcement work environment such as the detection field, protection field, paramedic, military, policing or other relevant fields related to the position.

Experience volunteering in non-profit organizations or similar organizations.

PARE - Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) result of 4:45 or better.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Availability and willingness to work shift work schedules (based on a 35-hour work week) including weekends and night shifts.

Able and willing to perform physical effort in the form of continuous standing and walking (50-60% of time) while on duty.

Able and willing to carry a Firearm.

Conditions of employment

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

You must be eligible to obtain both a Site Access Clearance and an Enhanced Reliability Status. The process involves a background investigation that includes:

• a loyalty assessment;
• law enforcement verifications;
• credit and financial verifications;
• a security interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), previous employment, online activities, financial situation, alcohol and/or drug use;
• personal references as well as previous employers will also be contacted as part of the security screening process.
You must also consent to completing a personal history questionnaire, be fingerprinted, and photographed.
