As part of our dynamic and skilled carpentry team in Dawson, you will be working on the National Historic Sites located in and around Dawson, YT.
You will be performing skilled carpentry work on historic and contemporary assets. This work would include foundation upgrades, roof upgrades to vessel structural repairs, inspecting facilities for defects and working with a multi-disciplinary team to repair and maintain our heritage structures. As a carpenter, you will have the opportunity to lead different projects in collaboration with the Carpentry Supervisor.

EDUCATION:

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATE :
• Journeyman Carpenter Certificate
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in the safe and appropriate use and maintenance of power, hand tools and construction equipment used in the building trades
• Experience in the inspection, repairing and maintenance of heritage structures
• Recent* experience working as a carpenter
* Minimum one (1) year experience working as journeyman carpenter.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the incumbent to:
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform
• Work weekends, shift work and irregular hours as required, with advance notice
• Use appropriate safety equipment and protective equipment at all times in the performance of duties
• May be required to perform heavy lifting as well as working in cramped and awkward positions
• Travel / work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain
Reliability Status security clearance
• Possess and maintain a valid class 5 Drivers’ Licence
• Successfully complete safety courses and training, as required (e.g.: Standard First Aid, Fall Arrest, WHMIS, CLC training, etc.)
• Undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks (when position is located in an area classed as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependants may be required)
