Stream 1 (EG-03): Delivers technical and analytical services in applied science, monitoring and/or active management related to a resource management program. Assists with Visitor Safety and Human Wildlife Co-existence programs by filling the role of Duty Officer and responding to incidents.

Riding Mountain National Park is located in Treaty 2 Territory, the Anishinabe homelands, where we work with the Coalition of First Nations with Interests in Riding Mountain National Park to foster positive and collaborative relationships to protect and present the natural and cultural heritage for all Canadians. Riding Mountain National Park is located approximately 3.5 hours northwest of Winnipeg and protects 3,000 square kilometers of wilderness and is home to a staggering diversity of living things.
Approximately 350,000 visitors come to Riding Mountain National Park throughout the entire year. Our dynamic and diverse staff work hard to provide our visitors with a memorable experience; whether they prefer to stay in the townsite of Wasagaming to shop and explore or immerse themselves in nature on our pristine trails and backcountry campsites. We provide our visitors with unique and adventurous experiences in every season so there is always a reason for them to visit the park.
This process is intended to fill current vacancies and anticipatory vacancies of various tenures in the Riding Mountain Field Unit.
This process will also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions at both the EG-03 and EG-04 levels with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in Riding Mountain Field Unit or other parts of the country.

EDUCATION:
Stream 1 (EG-03): Completion of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology), or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position.
EG-03 Acceptable Combination: In addition to above, examples of acceptable combinations of education, training and experience for EG-03 may include but are not limited to;
• Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) course relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organizations or employers including training provided by Indigenous elders or group that may include but are not limited to courses in natural science, traditional knowledge); AND
• A minimum of 2 seasons (6 months) experience working in the fields of
resource conservation, traditional land management, wildlife/ aquatics/vegetation and/or fire management.
Stream 2 (EG-04): Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology, agriculture) or other discipline relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Both Streams:
• Experience in travelling and working in the field under various/adverse weather and environmental conditions;
• Experience using a variety of data/sample collection equipment and means of transportation;
Stream 1 (EG-03):
• Experience participating in two (2) or more phases of field research, active management, or ecological monitoring projects (eg: design, logistics, synthesis of background information, definition of data/sample collection requirements, data/sample collection and/or analysis, presentation of results);
• Experience contributing to the preparation of technical/scientific reports, manuscripts drafts, protocols, presentations, web site information, public presentation or displays.
Stream 2 (EG-04):
• Experience leading two (2) or more phases of field research, active management, or ecological monitoring projects (eg: design, logistics, synthesis of background information, definition of data/sample collection requirements, data/sample collection and/or analysis, presentation of results);
• Experience preparing technical/scientific reports, manuscripts drafts, protocols, presentations, web site information, public presentation or displays.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Stream 2 (EG-04):
• Significant experience (greater than 2 years) in monitoring, research and/or active management related to:
- Grassland and/or forest ecosystems;
- Freshwater ecosystems;
- Wildlife (including Human Wildlife Co-existence);
- Species at risk; and/or
- Cultural resource management.
• Experience in supervision of staff, temporarily assigned personnel and/or volunteers.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Both Streams:
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekend and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (eg: all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required;
• Willingness to provide visitor safety and human wildlife coexistence operational support in a Duty Officer role for the Riding Mountain Field Unit;
• Willingness to attend and successfully complete the Canadian Firearm Safety course and to obtain and maintain a Valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL);
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a 40-hr Wilderness First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate.

Both Streams:
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks;
• Possession and maintenance of valid Class 5 Driver's License, Class 4 to be obtained.
