Gain experience within the Federal Government by working as a Treaty Annuity Payment student this summer. You will have the unique opportunity to travel to First Nations across Canada and be actively involved in the Treaty relationship between Indigenous people and the Crown. Every year Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) employees distribute payments on a national basis to persons who are registered under the Indian Act and members of a First Nation that signed a specific historic treaty with the Crown.

- Travel to various First Nation communities in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario
- Familiarize yourself with the diverse First Nation cultures
- Be actively involved in the Treaty relationship between Indigenous People and the Canadian government
What you will do:
Typical tasks may include:
- Corresponding with First Nations to obtain dates and times of Treaty payments;
- Corresponding with Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to confirm their attendance;
- Coordinating travel arrangements for volunteers;
- Travelling to First Nation communities;
- Distribution of Treaty Pay to First Nation members;
- Data input.
Duration: Full-time from April 29 to August 30, 2024
*These dates are approximate and may be extended or shortened depending on need.
What we are looking for:
Indigenous post-secondary students who are studying in various fields, but preference may be given to students in one of the following fields: Aboriginal/Indigenous studies, anthropology, business administration, history, human sciences, public administration, finance, accounting, office administration or social sciences.
To be eligible to apply, you must meet ALL the FSWEP eligibility criteria:
- be a full-time student in a post-secondary accredited / recognized academic institution
- this includes persons with disabilities considered to have full-time status by their academic institution.
- be a full-time student during the entire hiring process (Winter/Spring 2024);
- be returning to full-time post-secondary studies in September 2024;
- be at least the age of majority in the province where you will be working.

Must be able to travel frequently by vehicle and air in all weather conditions to perform work related functions.
Must be able to travel frequently to attend meetings throughout the region and in other parts of the country including in isolated and non-isolated communities where the use of different modes of transportation may be required.

Conditions of Employment
Conditions of employment are any requirements that must be met or complied with before being hired to a particular position. They must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.
• You must be willing to travel, as many of the First Nation communities are remote and isolated.
• A valid driver’s license may be required in some work locations.
Additional requirements
TRAVEL: Most of the student positions require various methods of travel and living in hotels/motels/other lodgings . Travel arrangements including meal expenses are coordinated and paid for by Indigenous Services Canada.
