The successful applicant will be housed at the National Wildlife Research Centre (NWRC) in Ottawa, Ontario. The NWRC is co-located on the Carleton University campus to foster collaboration between government and academic scientists. This research program is directly linked to the Biology department at Carlton University. For these reasons, limiting the initial selection process to students enrolled at Carleton University will facilitate finding a candidate that best meets our operational and research needs. If no suitable students are found, the process will be opened to a larger pool of candidates.

Work environment

Environment and Climate Change Canada is a science-based department, and we provide the science and technology information needed so that Canadians can make informed decisions about the environment. In addition, Environment and Climate Change Canada’s science and technology work helps us to protect and conserve our air, water, wildlife and spaces. The successful candidate will be housed at the National Wildlife Research Centre in Ottawa and be required to work for up to 20 hours per week.

Intent of the process

The Arctic Program for Regional and International Shorebird Monitoring (PRISM) is comprised of a collection of protocols designed to monitor long-term trends in Arctic-breeding shorebirds on the breeding grounds. The successful candidate will manage shorebird data collected as part of an Arctic PRISM Tier II long-term study. The successful candidate will also perform analyses of the long-term Arctic PRISM dataset to examine trends in the data.
